Thoughts on Orlando

It’s been a few days since the shooting in Orlando and I have needed some time to gather my thoughts and collect information about what happened and what is happening still.

First off, my heartfelt condolences to those who lost loved ones in this attack, a cowardly hate crime. It’s sad that there are people out there who are so filled with hate, who are so unbalanced, who are so lonely, that the only way they feel they can express themselves is to kill people. There really are just bad people out there. People who feel the influence of evil and wish harm on others for no other reason then the cause pain and suffering. And that is just sad. No matter the group targeted, whether Christians or Muslims, Whites or Blacks, Male or female, Gay or straight, any loss of life is a horrible tragedy.

But that is the problem. The people who are committing the crimes. The PEOPLE who are choosing to kill others. The PEOPLE who are murdering those who are innocent. It’s so easy to blame the gun, or blame the car, or blame the terrorist group, or just to place blame on society when what we really need to do is to place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the one who actually did it. It’s not the gun’s fault. It’s not societies fault. It’s not the LGBT community, who supposedly offended this guy because of his religious beliefs. No the blame lies squarely with the individual who committed the hate crime.

Orlando is just another example of how this country refuses to hold people accountable for what they do. Well he really didn’t mean to do it but he was so offended he just had to express himself. Two Words. Bull Shit. There are plenty other ways to express yourself and let go of the anger and emotions. Killing innocent people is not one of them. He made the choice to do all these killings. Until we are willing to hold people accountable, these things will continue to happen. Until we stop making them a Martyr, this will continue to happen. Until people are willing to get the help they need and talk about what is happening, this will continue to happen.

It sickens me that the so called leader of our country has the gall to go on television less then 30 minutes after an event like this and has the audacity to say, “See, if you would just listen to me and let me take away your guns, this would never have happened”. It sickens me that he would stand on the senseless deaths of innocents as a Crusader would to push his own agenda. Without so much as an apology to the families.

No matter how many times you say it, no matter how much you want to believe it, no matter what games you wish to play, more gun control would have never have prevented this or any of the other killings. Total confiscation would not have stopped him either. He would have used whatever was available.

So let’s really think long and hard about what happened in Orlando. Stop blaming society, Stop Blaming the Guns, Stop blaming everyone else for the things that happened. Let’s take some time to remember the families that lost loved ones.
