AIWB: Appendix In-Waist Band Carry. It’s all the rage now and is the “in” thing to do. Yet two years ago, it was shunned as a dangerous method of carry. Well I hate to break it to the people who are pushing AIWB as the next big evolution in concealed carry:
AIWB is not for everyone. In fact, there are people that don’t like it.
I know I just committed an act of heresy. But it’s because I am just not a fan of AWIB.
I hate, repeat hate in the waistband carry and in the waistband appendix carry even more. The bottom line is, it’s not comfortable. Yes I have tried it. No, I will not like it if I try it again.
As a bigger person (read fat), I prefer to carry my gun at the 3-4 o’clock position. It is more comfortable for me and allows me to draw from a location that I am very familiar with from shooting in competition. Yes it makes it difficult for me to carry the baby on that side, for example, but that is where I prefer it. There are plenty of people out there who choose not to carry appendix and should not be shamed into trying to carry appendix. We all have our reasons to not carry appendix and as such, we should allow people to do what they want. There really is no need to shame someone into using a carry system they do not like.
So if you are one of those people who are like me and choose not to carry appendix, rock on! For those that do, do your thing! There is no right or wrong way to carry your gun. As long as it on you, that is the most important point.
