Book Report: Shoot – Julie Golob

shootcoverWOW! So I have no idea where to begin. Honestly I am glad I get to start out posting for the New Year with reviewing this book! I have nothing but good things to say. Yes I know I just got the book for Christmas, but I tore through it and just couldn’t put it down!

Whether you are a seasoned competitor, a gun newbie or anywhere in between, this book is great investment in both time and money. Even me, an experienced competitor, found tons of great information, had a great review of the basics and even learned something new on the way.

So in this book, Julie starts us out on our shooting journey in an easy to read, fun, exciting way. This is probably one of the most comprehensive books on shooting and the shooting sports that I have ever read that was such a fun and easy format. I couldn’t help but just feel like I just had a great time while reading this book. She presents the information in a really easy and organized format. And you can just feel her enthusiasm and passion for the shooting sports as you read.

The book starts off with the basics in the first few chapters. This is where the beginning shooters can get an idea for what the shooting sports are about, gun safety, gun type, ammo and other basics. Over the next few chapters, she takes us through quite a number of the different shooting sports. From the NRA sponsored sports, to the Olympic level and then through USPSA, IDPA, IPSC and multi gun and more, you get a look at all the major sports/competitions and can get an idea of something you might be interested in trying.

Finally she takes us through the fundamentals of shooting and then moves into the advanced skills necessary to win and be competitive. Don’t worry. There are PLENTY of pictures here! And I do mean PLENTY. For example, there is a photo series where she breaks down the reloading process for a semi-auto handgun.

She even takes the time to break down and help you create a list of things you will need for your first competitive shoot. That is really helpful. I even found a couple of things I need to add to my range bag I didn’t even think about.

Over all this book was great. I really am glad I was able to get this book and read it. I was very happy and loved every minute of it. Thanks Julie for taking the time to share such a great book with us.

Again if you are looking for a book packed with tons of information that is fun and easy to read, this is the one for you. Especially if you are just starting out in the firearms world. I will be recommending this book to many of my own students as well as other shooters for sure.
