Match Date: August 14, 2015
It’s been three weeks since I have been able to get to any matches and shoot. I took a little vacation from shooting because our son was in town and we had so much planned, I just didn’t have time to shoot. But family always comes first so that was ok with me. I enjoyed getting to spend the time with him.
But this week I am back. I decided that this week I was going to shoot for fun and not for score. I bought a new magazine, the new Magpul G-17 magazine, for my bride’s Glock and wanted to test the mag and the gun under competition conditions. Keep in mind, I have never shot this gun outside the range so this was a first for me. I shoot an M&P Pro on a regular basis, so transitioning to a new gun was interesting.
The day started out nice and cool, but by the time I got to Fairfield, it was a little muggy and sticky. I met my friend Justin there and we just had some fun.
My whole routine was off since this was a gun I had zero experience shooting. It took me the first 2 strings on Stage one to figure out my grip and where the gun was shooting. Plus I had to remember that since I don’t have a holster or mag pouches that fit this gun, I was coming from the table for everything.
On stage 2 for example I forgot I had to grab the mag from the table and went for my belt. LOL it was pretty funny.
However, while my time was slow, I think I actually did pretty good for using a gun I have never shot, a brand new magazine, and having my whole routine off. I really had a blast, but honestly for now I will stick with my M&P. I am thinking of getting a Glock 34 for competition, so we will see.
I was talking with a few of the people that were shooting and they mentioned they saw my Videos. That really made me happy. It’s great to know that the video I am taking is bringing new people to the shoot. Plus it’s great to get some feedback from my audience (readers and viewers). So if you shoot FNS, Hi! Leave me a comment below if you would like or over on Youtube and let me know.
I apologize upfront for the video on stage 2 and 3. I didn’t realize I had bumped the camera off alignment till it was too late. I am sorry. At least you can see a little of it.
Enjoy the video!
What I did wrong: I used a gun that I have never shot before. In the midst of a competition is not the time to test a new gun and learn it. However, since I was shooting for fun, this is just advice to people.
What I did Right: I learned where the gun shot very quickly and was able to compensate for not knowing the gun. I had a blast shooting and that is what mattered this time. I came in wanting to just shoot for fun and I accomplished that goal.
