Match Date: June 26, 2015

Match Summary:

I was able to get out of the house for a few hours to go shoot some steel with my loving wife’s permission. Hotshot was doing great today, so she told me to go ahead and go over and get some shooting in.

The week before, I almost had the chance to go, but it got rained out, so this is the first time in about 3 weeks I have had a gun in my hand. The day started out a little gloomy and rainy and stayed that way for most of the day but the rain cleared up a little a few hours before the match was supposed to start. So I crossed my fingers the rain would hold off for the match this week. I got all my gear together and ran out of the house.

I got down there and it was still pretty gloomy, but you will see in the video how they have some pop up canopies set up too keep the rain off us. It was great. Anyway. By the time I was ready to go, it started raining again, so I waited a few minutes for the rain to die off. It finally lessened up quite a bit, but there were still some rain drops falling around, finally clearing up for the rest of the match, but staying Gloomy the rest of the night for shooting. It got humid quickly too.

I did alright for not having had a gun in my  hand for 3 weeks. My times were longer because of it, but I still had fun. I pushed a little too hard too. I made sure to hold back a little bit because of being a little rusty, but I still wanted to get up and go. Stage 2 was once again my downfall. Don’t know why. I think I am going to try starting on Stage 3 this next time and get the tough stuff out of the way while a little cold. That way when I reach Stage 1, I will be pretty warmed up.

I had some unexpected problems on Stage 1 with the GoPro. IE I couldn’t wear it on top of my head because of the canopy, so I wasn’t able to record anything of value for that stage. But I was able to record the rest of the match after that from a different point of view then normal. I remounted the camera to my ears and was able to shoot under the canopies. So I have footage from Stage 2 and 3.

You will also notice in the video I was able to finally get a title screen and some Text to work this time. I think it’s pretty cool. I need to make a couple of more logo screens and see what I can do. Anyway.

Enjoy the video!

What I did wrong: I pushed way too hard for being a bit rusty. I needed to hold back a little and work my way back into shooting.

What I did Right: I nailed all my reloads again. I am getting very fast with reloads which is great. I need to work on not dropping the gun and keeping it up to work reloads, but otherwise I am nailing them and getting my gun up quick.

  1. Is this an actual public shooting range? I would prefer practicing in an atmosphere like that rather than an indoor shooting range.

    1. Hi Tasha, Sort of? Fairfield Sportsmens Association a private gun club that allows the public to shoot in certain leagues there, like the Friday Night Steel league I shoot in. To really do anything else like use the actual range facilities, you have to be a member. My wife and I have thought about joining this club so that we could use the range to practice in a low stress environment and also do some things we can’t on an indoor range.
